Overview 

Insurance Ireland and Milliman look forward to welcoming you to our second CRO forum of 2023.

This event will focus on sustainability and climate related risk issues facing insurance companies. This will include practical advice based on current market practice, with insights into CBI expectations in this area. 

The session will cover both the “outside in” and “inside out” aspects of climate and sustainability issues and regulatory requirements, including the CBI’s Climate Risk Guidelines and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Following this event you should be able to benchmark your company against current market practice and have the information you need to take the next steps on your company’s climate and sustainability risk journey. This event is aimed at CRO’s.

Speakers

Sinead Clarke, Principal, Milliman

Sinéad is a principal in Milliman’s Dublin office. She currently leads the Risk and Capital Management team in Milliman Dublin. Sinead has over 15 years’ experience working with a wide variety of clients, including life, health and non-life insurers.

She is an expert on the Solvency II requirements for the risk and actuarial functions and has supported clients on various risk and capital management projects in recent years. She discharges the outsourced Head of Actuarial Function role for an International Private Medical Insurer based in Dublin. She is an active member of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and currently sits on the Society’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Healthcare Committee.

 

Laura Heuston, Co-Founder, SustainabilityWorks 

A chartered accountant and tax adviser by training, Laura Heuston has deep expertise in sustainable finance and ESG across banking, investment, and insurance, with a particular focus on investment and on EU and global sustainable finance policy and regulation.  Laura is a Co-Founder of SustainabilityWorks, a multi-disciplinary sustainability consulting firm. SustainabilityWorks advises real economy and financial services clients, as well as public and non-profit organisations, supporting them to develop robust sustainability/ESG strategies for their organisation, alongside how to move from strategy to implementation to reporting.

 

Dr Cera Slevin, Director, Climate Matters Ltd

Cera is an experienced engineer and company director with 25 years across energy and climate change; from design, construction, operations & maintenance, trading, project development to establishing joint ventures, new business models and investment management in Africa, Middle East, Australia and Europe. Cera is the Founder of Climate Matters Ltd to support companies in determining (1) the impact their business is having on the environment and (2) what climate change could do to their business. Current products are:

# Green House Gas inventory or “carbon footprint” for businesses to ISO 14064-1

# 3rd party verification (Limited or Reasonable Assurance) for GHG inventories to ISO 14064-3

# Climate Risk and Vulnerability assessments to IS0 14090

# Scenario analysis across portfolios of assets to RCP 8.5 to assess physical climate risk

Climate Matters Ltd is also the Member State Facilitator for Ireland under the EU Mission on Climate Adaptation (Mission4Adapt).

Cera holds a BEng and PhD in Mechanical Engineering and is a Chartered Engineer (CEng).  She also has Postgraduate Diplomas in Coastal Zone Management, Leadership & Management as well as Executive & Business Coaching and in 2022 completed Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) Sustainability and Climate Risk exam.
