Overview 

Insurance Ireland and Milliman look forward to welcoming you to our first CRO forum of 2024.

We are pleased to announce that Andrew Candland, Head of Financial Risk and Governance Policy, Central Bank of Ireland will join us on Thursday, 11th of April to give us some insight into the Central Bank of Ireland’s regulatory priorities in the areas of big data, technology, digitilisation and the use of AI. Andrew will provide some thoughts on this following the publication of the Data Ethics Within Insurance report in August last year.  We will also be joined by Gary Leyden, CEO of InsTech.ie, to discuss some of the opportunities for insurers in this space. Sinead Clarke, Principal, Milliman will chair the event.

The event will include discussion points from both Andrew and Gary and break-out sessions, to discuss the risks and opportunities in this area with industry colleagues.

Speakers

Sinead Clarke, Principal, Milliman

Sinéad is a principal in Milliman’s Dublin office. She currently leads the Risk and Capital Management team in Milliman Dublin. Sinead has over 15 years’ experience working with a wide variety of clients, including life, health and non-life insurers.

She is an expert on the Solvency II requirements for the risk and actuarial functions and has supported clients on various risk and capital management projects in recent years. She discharges the outsourced Head of Actuarial Function role for an International Private Medical Insurer based in Dublin. She is an active member of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and currently sits on the Society’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Healthcare Committee.

 

 Andrew Candland, Head of Financial Risk and Governance Policy, Central Bank of Ireland

  

 Andrew Candland joined the Central Bank in 2018. He started in the Insurance Directorate as Head of Actuarial, Advisory and Major International Insurance Firms. In 2023 he took on a new role as Head of Financial Risks and Governance Policy.

Before moving to Dublin he spent nearly five years at the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) in Frankfurt, where he set up EIOPA’s centre of expertise in internal models and then became Head of the Oversight Unit. Before joining EIOPA, Andrew held roles at the UK Financial Services Authority and at Prudential plc, where he qualified as an actuary. 

 

 Gary Leyden, CEO, InsTech.ie

  

 

Gary brings an outside-in view to the insurance industry. Unashamedly, Gary does not come from a career in insurance!. His expertise lies in understanding the power of digital technology to transform and disrupt industries, having incubated and invested in over 300 technology companies across all industry verticals. As an entrepeneur, investor and mentor Gary believes strongly in building collaborative ecosystems to foster innovation. Gary’s education background includes an MBA form the Smurfit Graduate School of Business, a Diploma in Marketing from University College Dublin, and a BBS in Business from Trinity College, Dublin.
