Insurance Ireland – EisnerAmper INED Forum H1 2023

Overview

We are delighted to be hosting our first INED Forum of 2023, in partnership with EisnerAmper which will focus on SEAR. 

Nic Dent, Head of Client Engagement, Worksmart and Emma Howell, Business Development Manager – Worksmart Ltd will join us to discuss the key learnings from the implementation of SM&CR in the UK. In addition, they will be considering the similarities/differences between the recently consulted on SEAR Regime and the INED perspective. 

From Governance to Personal Accountability, Nic and Emma will share a variety of experiences having helped many of the largest Insurers, Asset Managers and Banks in the UK implement their responsibilities and accountabilities under the UK Regime. With more than 100 regulated entities in the UK currently using the services that Worksmart offer in respect of SM&CR, there is a lot of experience to share.

Some of the topics that will be discussed: High level overview of SM&CR in the UK – Compare and contrast between UK/Proposed Irish regime component parts; SM&CR and the INED – The benefits for and challenges to INEDs; Governance Changes, INED’s and SM&CR – Governance changes noted as a result of SM&CR, the impact on INED and the positive outputs; Regulatory Feedback (PRA/FCA) – Positive and negative over what has been seen in the UK & Lessons learnt from regulated entities in the UK – The biggest challenges seen that UK entities have grappled with, and what they might have done differently if they’d had the relevant foresight.

Speaker Biography

Moyagh Murdock, Chief Executive Officer, Insurance Ireland

 

Moyagh Murdock is the Chief Executive Officer of Insurance Ireland having taken over the role from Interim CEO Gerry Hassett in April 2020. Previously she was the CEO of the Road Safety Authority, a position she has held since February 2014. Prior to taking up the CEO role in the RSA, she was Chief Operating Officer for Bus Éireann after having first joined the company in 2007 as the Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer with responsibility for the fleet maintenance and garage operations.

Originally from Newry, Co. Down, Moyagh graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering. She also holds an MBA from Dublin City University and a Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Transport Operations Management.

 

Michael Horan, Manager of Regulation & Policy Development, Insurance Ireland 

 

Michael is the Non-Life Insurance Manager at Insurance Ireland. Michael’s role involves representing members’ interests to multiple stakeholders, including Government, the Central Bank of Ireland, public representatives, the media and at European level. Prior to joining Insurance Ireland Michael held a variety of managerial roles at Royal Insurance in the UK over a nine year period.

 

David Montgomery, Director, FCCA, CDPO, CIA  

Dave is a professional director and provides risk consulting services. Formerly a regulator within the CBI’s Risk and Insurance Supervision divisions, he was involved in developing its risk-based approach to supervision and in front-line supervision. 

Dave is a member of the Financial Stability Board’s (FSB) Working Group on Cross-border Payments Data and Identifiers and a member of the Compliance Institute’s Funds Working Group and Sustainable Finance task force.

 

Nic Dent, Head of Client Engagement, Worksmart Ltd

 

Nic is highly experienced in implementing people centric compliance and performance management solutions focused on regulatory alignment, optimal business benefit and long term value. Aside from his responsibilities within the marketing, sales and product strategy functions, Nic spends the good share of his time consulting on how to better manage regulatory based processes whilst improving capability, productivity and customer experience (Aug 2022).

 

Emma Howell, Business Development Manager, Worksmart Ltd 

Emma is Business Development Manager at Worksmart and has been involved in some 30+ SM&CR and Training and Competence systems implementations.  After spending a number of years as a Mortgage and Investment Adviser in her early career, for the past 20 years she has put her experience to use in understanding the challenges faced by Financial Services firms and providing solutions that deliver real business benefit.
