Insurance Ireland Brussels Roundtable 5, 18th Feb 2020

“Is the economy that serves the people ready for the future of work?” was the question we discussed with our speakers and participants at Insurance Ireland’s 5th Brussels Roundtable. MEP Barry Andrews, European Commission’s Jörg Peschner as well as Sarah Kirby and Tilman Hengevoss of Zurich insurance group followed the invitation of Insurance Ireland president Ann Kelleher to provide their insight.

In the discussion it became clear that a lot needs to be done to get our economy and society future-ready. Particularly the change in the needed skillset for a changing work environment will have to be developed. Awareness needs to be raised for the potential risks associated with the changing demand in our economy and its impact on citizens. Risks arising from discontinuity of work-life, new organisational forms of labour life (including platforms) and increasing threats for mental health will have its impact on social systems and economy.

A multi-layer strategy will have to be developed across public authorities, industry and social society to get ready for the future of work.
