The Board of Insurance Ireland today approved the membership of XL Group plc to Insurance Ireland. In addition, David Watson, Chief Executive for XL Group’s Europe/Asia Pacific Reinsurance segment, will join the twelve member council comprising CEOs who represent the interests of the international insurance sector in Ireland. 

Speaking at the announcement Ciaran McGettrick, Chairman of the Insurance Ireland International Council said, “We welcome David to the Council and look forward to the contributions he will make to our ongoing remit to develop and execute a successful engagement plan to promote Ireland as a base for insurance companies, helping grow and promote Ireland’s international financial sector”. 

Commenting on the announcement David Watson said, “Progression and innovation is really only possible through the facilitation of open dialog and the sharing of ideas. We believe Insurance Ireland provides a forum conducive to this and we are extremely pleased to join them and look forward to contributing to the important work they do.”

The council works collaboratively with Central Bank of Ireland, Government and representative bodies on an appropriate operating framework for international Insurance in Ireland which will result in a new era of retention and growth.  

Insurance Ireland also leverages membership of Insurance Europe and Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) to influence policy at European and global level to deliver synergies for Ireland Inc. and the Insurance industry.
