The Government commissioned OECD report, published on April 22nd last year, recommends a universal pension system to address the lack of provision for retirement across all sectors of the Irish economy. In response, Insurance Ireland has established a national and international advisory panel of social security and pension-policy experts, reached out to key stakeholders and outlined in a draft report — A Universal Pension for Ireland, the options that are available to policy-makers.
A Universal Pension for Ireland stakeholder workshop will be held at Dublin Castle on 11th February 2014. Workshop participants include: Jeff Brown (a former member of the US President’s Council of Economic Advisors) of the University of Illinois, Susan St. John (an authority on auto-enrolment pension systems) of Auckland University (NZ), the Hon. Nick Sherry, former Minister for Superannuation (Australia), Chris Curry, CEO of the Pension Policy Institute (UK) and Dermot Corry, Principal at Milliman Consulting and President of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland.
