9.00am –Open David Snow, Zurich Insurance & Chairman of Insurance Ireland Anti-Fraud
9.05am –GBFI– Detective Sgt Catharina Gunne from the GBFI, will provide a presentation on the activity of the GBFI. How it functions and sits within the Gardaí. In addition she will provide some sample cases and discuss issues faced in Insurance Fraud investigation and the best way to prepare a case for referral to the GBFI. THIS PRESENTATION HAS BEEN AWARDED 2HRS CPD

11.15am – MIBI (Aidan Lynch and PJ Murphy) Aidan Lynch will open with a discussion on how the MIBI operates and the way it is formed. He will discuss the various aspects of fraud faced by the MIBI and what they are finding. PJ Murphy is a field investigator with the MIBI based in Cork. He will discuss the difficulties faced by an investigator and ways of gathering evidence. He will also give examples of sample cases
12.00pm – G4S – Martin Roache is a former British Police Detective. He is now the Surveillance Client Relationship Manager at G4S UK and Ireland. Martin will provide a presentation on Compliant Surveillance and how to carry our insurance investigations within the confidents of the law. He will also touch on using the internet for investigation and how best to obtain credible evidence from surveillance operations.
12.45pm – Thornton’s Des Swan Des is a Fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountants and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. Des has specialised in financial loss claims, including business interruption, fidelity guarantee, products liability and professional indemnity for the past 13 years. Des will provide a presentation of Accountancy and what to do look out for during a forensic investigation.

2.00pm – Dr Simon Peck, AXA PPP Healthcare, UK. Simon Peck is Head of Investigations and Medical Advice at AXA PPP Healthcare, which is the UK’s second biggest health insurance company. He is dual-qualified as a doctor and chartered accountant and is considered to be an authority on healthcare billing, billing abuse and fraud.

Catharina Gunne, Detective Sgt, GBFI |
Detective Sergeant Catharina Gunne is a member of An Garda Síochána attached to the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation (GBFI) She has responsibility for investigating white collar crime and fraud related matters and has worked on a number of high profile fraud cases concerning financial institutions including the former Anglo Irish Bank. She has also dealt with a number of high profile frauds relating to the insurance industry which have been successfully processed through the courts. She is an expert in payment card fraud analysis and has spent a lot of her early career targeting organised crime gangs in this area.
Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance (Dublin City University). She is also a member of CEPOL (European Police College).

Aidan Lynch, Claims Manager, MIBI |
Aidan Lynch is the Claims Manager of the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI). Aidan has worked in the insurance industry since 1995. He joined MIBI in 2003 and was appointed MIBI Claims Manager in 2010. Prior to working with MIBI Aidan worked in 123.ie, Travelers (St Paul) Insurance and Axa Direct. Aidan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and Law. This lecture is designed to inform on the different functions and responsibilities undertaken by MIBI. |

PJ Murphy is the Managing Director of PJ Murphy Liability Investigation Services Ltd. PJ has worked in the insurance Industry for thirty five years which included working as Regional Claims Manager with Eagle Star Insurance for 15 years. PJ Murphy Liability Investigation Services Ltd was established in 2003 and investigates claims arising from road traffic, employers and public liability accidents. The company also serves as support to the Special Investigation Units of a number of insurers. PJ holds a Diploma in Safety Health & Welfare at Work (UCC) and Professional Certificate in Insurance (UCD).

Martin Roach, Client Relationship Manager, G4S |
After ten years’ service in the Police – specialising in criminal investigations and surveillance – Martin moved into the field of insurance fraud investigation. He has more than two decades’ worth of experience in the use and deployment of surveillance as a valued investigative tool, and the legislation that surrounds this field of work. Martin has undertaken and overseen surveillance and investigative operations across the UK, Ireland and in Europe. He has specialist knowledge of RIPA and the Human Rights Act – having lectured widely on both subjects. |

Des has been working in the Insurance Industry for over 30 years. Formerly with Irish Life Assurance / Irish Life & Permanent where he held various roles in Claims, Property, Investments, Services, Procurement and Internal Auditing.
Subsequently Des joined Thornton & Partners Loss Adjusters in 2000, where he is currently a main board director. Des Specialises in financial loss claims including Business Interruption, Fidelity Guarantee, Products Liability & Professional Indemnity. He also specialises in Stock and money losses. His work involves developing financial loss solutions on both SME and Major Financial Losses for both Irish and International Clients. Des is a Fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountants and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. |
