Insurance Ireland are delighted to collaborate with Muzinich & Co on a new Chief Investment Officer (CIO) webinar series, discussing key topics faced by industry investment leaders.The first Chief Investment Officer (CIO) webinar is taking place on MS Teams on Tuesday, 25 June 2024.
In this first discussion, we are delighted to be joined by Frank Cunneen, Head of Investments, IPB Insurance, George Kyriakpoulos, Head of Investment Implementation, Zurich Insurance Europe alongside Erick Muller, Muzinich’s Co-Chair of the Asset Allocation Group. The webinar will include a panel and Q&A facilitated by Florian Wimber, Director Advocacy & Public Affairs & Solvency II Lead, Insurance Ireland.
The discussion will cover some of the key challenges faced by insurance investors today, including how they align to their own balance sheet liabilities and liquidity needs. The debate will also touch on opportunities available in markets and case studies from investment strategies implemented over recent months.

Speakers
Florian Wimber
Director, Advocacy & Public Affairs, Solvency II Lead, Insurance Ireland
Florian Wimber is a regulatory affairs and advocacy expert in the insurance industry with more than a decade of experience in EU financial services and insurance regulation. Florian is the Director of Advocacy & Public Affairs of the representative body of the Irish insurance industry, Insurance Ireland, and its Acting Director of Communications. He joined the organization in 2018 as Head of European Affairs and International Insurance and established the association’s representation in Brussels, Belgium.
Prior to his assignment with Insurance Ireland, Florian was Advisor to the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia where he was working on the establishment of social protection and the regulation of the insurance market. From 2010-2016 Florian was with the German Insurance Association (Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft e.V., GDV) where he held different positions in Brussels and Berlin. Florian is a German national and holds a degree in economics from University of Cologne and Trinity College, Dublin.
Frank Cunneen
Head of Investments, IPB Insurance
Frank Cunneen is Head of Investments at IPB Insurance. He heads a team of three investment professionals and is responsible for all aspects of managing the investment assets of IPB. Prior to his appointment as Head of Investments in May 2082, Frank was Portfolio Manager within the investment team at IPB Insurance for the previous 10 years. All investor decisions are made in house and are governed by investment parameters as set by the Board of Directors through the approved investment Policy.
Prior to joining IPB Insurance, Frank held roles of equity trader and credit analyst at Davy and Bank of Ireland respectively. Frank holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University College Dublin (UCD) and a Masters in Business Studies from the Michael Smurfit School of Business.
George Kyriakopoulos
Head of Investment Implementation, Zurich Insurance Europe
George Kyriakopoulos is the Head of Investment Implementation at Zurich Insurance Europe. He oversees the management of €5bn of assets across various asset classes, including fixed income (government, public credit and private debt), equities, real estate and private equity. George has been with the organisation since 2012 and his remit covers Zurich’s general insurance business in the European Union.
Prior to Zurich, George served as fund manager with Global Reach Securities and business projects manager with State Street Bank. He holds a BSc in Business Information Systems from University College Cork and a MSc in Financial Economics from Brunel University. George is also a CFA charter holder.
Erick Muller, MBA
Co-Chair of The Asset Allocation Group (AAG), Muzinich & Co
Erick joined Muzinich in 2015. His responsibilities cover macro and fixed income markets strategy and product management as well as co-chairing the Asset Allocation Group. Erick joined Muzinich from JP Morgan AM, where he spent nearly four years as a Senior Client Portfolio Manager. Prior to that he spent over four years as Head of Fixed Income Product Management at Fidelity Worldwide Investment and before that was Global Head of Capital Market Research at Crédit Agricole CIB for eight years. Erick started his career in finance as a Senior Economist at HSBC and UBS with a particular focus on the eurozone preparation and creation. Erick has an MBA in Finance Marketing from the ESLSCA Business School and a degree in Economics from the Université Panthéon-Assas.
