Pension Workshop – A Universal Pension for Ireland – Governance/Product Design

A Universal Pension for Ireland: 1. Governance / Product Design, an Insurance Ireland Workshop and Lunch (8.30am – 11.00am), Monday 18th May, Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin 8

In response to the OECD’s Review of the Irish Pension System (published on 22nd April, 2013) Insurance Ireland’s report, A Universal Pension for Ireland (published 30th September 2014), emphasised the need for action on Ireland’s looming pension crisis. In particular we underlined both the importance of individual citizen ownership of pension accounts and the dangers of a state-only solution.

In late 2013 and throughout 2014 Insurance Ireland hosted discussions between policy-makers, employers, trades unions, public servants and economists with a view to facilitating an informed consensus about the best way to introduce a universal pension into Ireland. In early 2015 the Government established the Universal Retirement Savings Group (URSG) to consider its future policy on universal pensions. During 2015 we are continuing to provide a platform that allows stakeholders and experts to engage with each other by facilitating a series of workshops that will both inform our engagement with the URSG and lead, later this year, to concrete proposals for a private-sector managed universal pension system for Ireland.

At 8.30am on 18th May next we are hosting the first of these workshops: A Universal Pension for Ireland: 1. Governance / Product Design

Our guest speaker is Jeremy Cooper, Chairman, Retirement Income – Challenger Limited, former chair of the Super System Review (the Cooper Review) of the Australian universal pension system and former Deputy Chair of the Australian Securities & Investments Commission

The event itself will be held under the Chatham House Rule and nothing said by any person will be reported outside the workshop.
