Function 

On behalf of its members, Insurance Ireland works with EU institutions, governments, regulators and policymakers to create and maintain an effective insurance market for businesses and consumers and represents the Irish insurance market in the general public.

As part of the Advocacy, Communications and Public Affairs team of Insurance Ireland, the successful candidate, will support the implementation of the advocacy and public affairs strategy of Insurance Ireland and support its policy objectives.

The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and gathering intelligence on political and regulatory developments relevant for the insurance sector and work closely with colleagues across the organisation. The candidate will facilitate to an effective cooperation and coordination with different stakeholders and contribute to developing and leveraging working relationships with institutions, political and public stakeholders.

Tasks 

· Assisting monitoring and gathering intelligence on political and regulatory developments of relevant to the insurance industry.

· Supporting the analysis of developments on a range of EU and global initiatives.

· Promote the aims and objectives of Insurance Ireland and help secure the outcomes and deliverables set out in the Insurance Ireland Advocacy and Public Affairs Strategy.

· Undertaking political research – producing briefing notes, background papers etc.

· Coordinate responses to TD’s letters and inquiries on matters relating to insurance and long-term savings, including working with policy colleagues to draft replies and liaising with Political offices.

· Reporting internally on the developments and the wider political and regulatory discussion in the EU with relevance for the Irish insurance market.

· Providing support for the development of the association’s positions and contributing to the implementation of lobbying activities.

· Supporting the management of the association’s contact network and stakeholder engagement.

· Compile internal and external updates and newsletters including monitoring notes for an internal audience and weekly member newsletter.

· Complete administrative tasks associated with the successful running of a busy public affairs and communications team.

· Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by Insurance Ireland

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Minimum Requirements

· University level education, preferably in an area related to politics, law, economics or international relations.

· Strong interest in EU political and regulatory developments and a desire to learn about the insurance industry.

· Interest in understanding of strategic and regulatory issues in financial services and insurance.

· Able to work independently and in team and intellectually curious.

· Proactive, organised and self-motivated to manage workload and meet agreed deadlines.

· Very good analytical skills and proven ability to synthesise feedback.

· Creative thinking with a curious, inquisitive nature.

· Fluent written and spoken English.

· Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with people at all levels.

· An outgoing and dynamic personality.

 

Desirable

· Experience in working with EU or domestic institutions or the financial services sector.

· Understanding of the value add a trade body brings, inputting ideas for process and value improvements.

Our offer 

We offer an intellectually challenging position in a fast-paced and changing work environment and the opportunity to gain experience in the competitive regulatory landscape of insurance in a trade body of a leading insurance market in Europe. The contract will be a full-time contract for six months under Belgium Law with the possibility of extension.
