Insurance Ireland has today (Monday, August 31st 2020) launched a new leadership programme for the insurance sector to commence October 2020, as well as announcing two fully-funded scholarships for the programme. Both the programme and the scholarship competition are now open for applications.
The Insurance Ireland Accelerated Leadership Programme, which aims to build leadership capabilities in the sector at this extremely challenging time, is a partnership between Insurance Ireland, IFS Skillnet, PDI Consulting and University College Cork (UCC). The 18-month programme, which is accredited by UCC, is available for employees in member companies of Insurance Ireland. It covers a series of industry-specific modules and spans a range of leadership techniques including people and talent management, managing change, customer relationship management, strategic thinking, and transformation management as they relate to the insurance and insurtech industry.
The Covid-19 pandemic has created an environment where technologies and virtual working are more prominent, and regulatory compliance requirements are evolving quicker than ever. As a direct result of this, the programme is geared towards addressing specific Covid-19 leadership challenges. It comes as part of Insurance Ireland’s commitment to the Government’s Ireland for Finance strategy 2025, which, among other things, seeks to build leadership, succession and diversity of talent in the industry.
Moyagh Murdock, Chief Executive of Insurance Ireland said:
“We are delighted to launch this new programme, which comes at a critical time for the insurance sector and indeed the wider economy. The competitive success of the industry depends on innovation and adaptability, which are driven in no small part by great leadership. With the current challenges in mind, this programme will allow participants to build the skills they need to lead the industry as it moves from response, to recovery, to reformation. As we have a strong focus on promoting greater diversity in our sector, we will also be encouraging a diverse cohort to participate in the course.”
Laura Farrell, Chief Membership Engagement Officer in Insurance Ireland, continued:
“Change has been sudden and radical for the insurance industry as a result of Covid-19 and this programme is designed to build leadership capability at this critical time. Through targeted competency development aligned to learning, organisations in the sector can increase their talent pool and leadership potential, thereby building capability to address future challenges. With Covid-19 in mind, the programme has been adapted to meet the needs of an agile and virtual world and parts of each module will be delivered online.”
The two scholarships announced today are available to managers within Insurance Ireland member companies, and will be awarded on the basis of an essay competition. The scholarships include free admission to the programme, which is valued at €9,700; €1,000 in expenses; mentoring from Industry thought leaders; textbooks; and six personalised podcasts over the duration of the programme. Interested parties are advised to visit the Insurance Ireland website where they will be invited to submit a 750-word essay by September 21st 2020.
