Overview

On Wednesday 22nd October at 12.30pm via Zoom, Insurance Ireland is delighted to once again partner with Society of Actuaries (SAI) for an update on the Right to be Forgotten for Cancer Survivors in Ireland.

In December 2023 Insurance Ireland Life members introduced a New Code of Practice for Cancer Survivors Seeking Mortgage Protection Insurance. The code provided cancer survivors a ‘Right to be Forgotten’, meaning insurers will disregard a cancer diagnosis where treatment ended more than 7 years prior to their application or more than 5 years if the applicant was under 18 at the time treatment ceased. The Code applies for cover of up to €500,000 per (cancer-surviving) applicant in connection with a mortgage on a principal private residence.

In May 2025 Insurance Ireland published a review of the effectiveness of the Code in its’ first year: Review of the Code of Practice by Forvis Mazars – Insurance Ireland.

In July 2025 the SAI RTBF working group published an update paper exploring the expected impacts of the parameters of the Code: Here

In this webinar, you will hear more about the effectiveness of the Code since it was introduced and also considerations for Government as they look to put the Code on a statutory footing.

You can register for the event on the SAI website here.
