Insurance Ireland is delighted to collaborate with our Sponsor, Swiss Finance Council, to host an in person roundtable event exploring the key role of cross-border insurance in driving Europe’s strategic priorities.

We will be joined by a supervisors, regulators & industry leaders who will discuss pragmatic proposals to enhance supervisory convergence, support sound business models, and align cross-border insurance with Europe’s Savings & Investment Union. Keynote Speakers

Petra Hielkema, Chairwoman of EIOPA

Petra is the Chairperson of EIOPA and has been leading the Authority since September 2021, following her appointment by the European Council on 27 May 2021 after confirmation by the European Parliament on 18 May 2021.

In 2025 Petra is chairing the Joint Committee (the role rotates between the ESA Chairs). In that capacity she is also deputy Vice Chair of the ESRB Steering Committee and the ESRB General Board in 2025.


Michael Leahy, Prudential International Assurance

Michael Leahy, Managing Director PIA (M&G’s European insurance company). He joined PIA in January 2010. Michael’s time in PIA has seen the business triple in size and in 2019 M&G plc transferred its European insurance businesses into PIA as part of Brexit preparation. In addition to managing PIA Michael is involved in R&D across M&G including opening up access to the M&G Participating Fund to insurers in Europe and Asia.

Prior to joining M&G Michael held a number of senior roles in Standard Life including CEO of Standard Life’s domestic Irish business, Managing Director of Standard Life International and Marketing Director of Standard Life UK.

Michael is a director of Insurance Ireland the representative body of insurance companies in Ireland and joint chair of the International Council. He is a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK and the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and holds an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.

Benoît Waltregny – Deputy CEO & Regional Director, Lloyd’s Europe

Benoît has about 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, having held senior management and C-level positions in the banking and insurance sectors.

He is responsible for Corporate Strategy, Customer Excellence, Legal, Regulatory, and Government Policy & Affairs for Lloyd’s Europe.

He is a member of the EIOPA – Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group (IRSG).

Benoît is Maître de Conférences at HEC (ULg Business School).  He holds  Masters of Laws degrees of University of Liège (BE), University of East Anglia (UK) and Harvard Law School (US).
